Simple tip to organize your nightstand

I did this like a week or almost 2 weeks ago. For the past year probably the top drawer of my night stand has been a mess and I couldn’t be bothered to clean it up or organize it. So far, after my organizing, its been kept like that :)

I had a bunch of stuff in. From pills, hairgrips to small books, pens and more.

I found boxes that would fit in the drawer and work as divisors (the ones they sell in IKEA are great for clothing and deeper drawers). One of the boxes I had was too tall, so I cut it. I mean, if you want to go out and buy divisors or small containers, go :) But I knew if I didn’t do it then, I wouldn’t do it at all. Plus, I had the boxes for free ;)

The, what I did was divide everything by categories. It can be: meds, papers, accessories. But I chose: stuff used often, papers and hygienic stuff (like antibacterial gel and tissues). Oh.. and trash.. which obviously I threw out.

And this was my final result!

I did the same with hubby’s drawer. He hated the divisions at the beginning. But now he’s ok with it.. because he knows it helps a lot keeping everything organized!

It’s a very simple but great tip. I need to tell my mom to do this. Her drawer is a mess (as mine WAS).

Shoes by Architects

Almost all women (and men: my husband) are obsessed with shoes! I personally need to wear high heels almost all the time.. mainly because I’m short.. and well, I like it. High heels always give you a better posture and make your legs look better ;) Anyways, some people prefer them flat. When it comes to designers Im sure almost all will agree with me and LOVE Christian Louboutin, YSL, Jimmy Choo, Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden and much more..

But what happens when an architect designs a shoe? Is it good? Bad? Take a look!

Julian Hakes, a London based architect, designed these pair of shoes with no foot plate. What do you think?

Personally, I think Zaha Hadid should stick to architecture. Don’t mess around with shoes. Please. (that’s my opinion)

Rem D. Koolhaas, in my opinion, does a nice job. I would definitely buy them.

Here’s Tea Petrovic’s design. Doesn’t look confortable at all. Gives me the impression that those wires will cut through my skin! They are interesting though.

Marloes ten Bhömer, also from London, did these. Looks kind of like origami.

Which design is your favorite? Mines are the ones from Rem Koolhaas and the one with no foot plate was very interesting!

Decorating Your Bedroom on a Budget

Would you like to give your room a make-over but don’t have enough money? That was my case when I re-designed my bedroom. I wasn’t happy with how it looked like and didn’t feel like it was my “sanctuary”. You all know that your bedroom is the most important place at home… its where you start and end your day, and a place to recharge energy. So being comfortable in it is important! Remember to have in mind the BEDROOM BASICS!

All you’ll need is a bit of creativity, dedication, time and of course money… hopefully a small amount ;)

BED

You don’t really need to buy a new one to re-vamp your room. You may just use your imagination and have a DIY headboard and change your bedcovers. I like to focus a lot on the wall behind the bed, make it work as a frame (your bed will be the picture). In my case, I filled that wall with different picture frames.

WALLS

If you have a small room, the walls will be the place with more area to decorate. Here, you can use wallpapers, picture frames, mirrors and wall stickers, this will give a nice look to it. Try using contrasting colors. It will give life and dimension to the room. And, as I said, wall stickers can make a change without having to change the wall color.

FURNITURE

Rearrange it. You’ll see the huge difference it will make. It’s a great way to give a fresh and new look. The best thing: It’s FREE! ;)

PILLOWS & RUGS

Have many. It will give a cozier look and, as I mentioned in an older post, it’s a great and less-expensive way to splurge on designer items. Placing rugs on the floor will also help revamping the new look.

Toy look-a-like Furniture

Reminds you of something? I’m pretty sure you played with it when you where a kid. A stacking ring toy! Honestly I don’t remember… I have a bad memory and don’t remember playing with one of them, but my baby sister and brother sure had one!

This Vancouver based, Cumulus Project, created this practical, space saver and multifunctional furniture. Works as a cute decoration object and also as puffs and a low table. Isn't it fun? Would you like to have one?

What do you think? I’d love to know :)
